aptus-startboost
Aptus Startboost

Aptus Startboost is the root and growth booster that sits at the foundation of the Aptus range, a highly concentrated blend of humic acid and protein hydrolysate that supports a plant while it is still building the root system everything else depends on. It works as a nitrogen booster, root stimulator, microbial inoculant and rooting agent in one bottle, which is why it earns a place from propagation, through the whole vegetative phase, and into the first week of flowering. The nitrogen it carries is organic, held by the amino acids that supply it, rather than delivered as a mineral salt.

Two natural ingredients do the work. Protein hydrolysate delivers L-amino acids, produced by enzymatic digestion of natural materials, and those amino acids are both the source of the organic nitrogen and a stimulus to the bacteria population living in the planting medium. The nitrogen content is 6.1%, chelated with left-turning amino acids, and that chelation is what lifts how readily the plant can take it up. Leonardite humic acid is the second half: a building block of soil structure and health, and a chelator of the elements already sitting in the medium. Between them they increase the transport of nutritional elements across plant cell membranes while reducing levels of toxic elements in the growing medium, so Startboost conditions the medium as much as it feeds the plant. Aptus state that the organic nitrogen provided by L-amino acids promotes robust vegetative growth and photosynthesis without risk of burning or overdose.

Startboost goes in as a root drench or as a foliar spray, and both have their place: a dilute pre-soak for cloning and seed starting medium, a stronger dip for roots at transplant, and a regular addition to the reservoir at every feed through the vegetative phase. It works as a foliar on its own, and Aptus pair it with Fasilitor because mono-silicic acid increases the bioavailability of everything mixed with it. Those same organic compounds are the reason it asks for a little system discipline. In a recirculating system they form biofilm and add to the cleaning load, which is why most growers add Startboost to the reservoir the day before the feed water is replaced, and why it should never be left standing in a reservoir for long. On a fertigation system it is limited to one feed a week, and it is left out of the CLEAN Program altogether when the substrate is rockwool. It suits all species of plants, and flowering and fruiting plants especially, so it is not limited to an indoor crop. If you are working out where to start with the Aptus range, Startboost and Fasilitor are the two foundation products, and Startboost is the one that earns its keep earliest, from the moment a cutting or a seedling puts out its first roots.

NOTE: Do not add Startboost to a Deep Water Culture (DWC) system as a root feed. Products containing organic compounds are not suited to DWC systems; for DWC growers, Startboost is recommended as a foliar spray only.
