When the fan operates, the butterfly blades open with minimal airflow resistance, allowing exhaust air to pass through freely. When the fan stops, the spring-loaded blades close automatically, sealing the duct and blocking any return airflow, drafts, or debris. This makes the damper particularly valuable in grow tent setups where an inline fan exhausts through a wall or ceiling penetration. Insert the damper into the duct opening with the butterfly blades facing the direction of exhaust airflow. The blades must open in the direction air travels out.
Push the damper into the duct until the outer rubber gasket rings grip the duct interior firmly and the damper is seated securely.
The damper can be fully or partially inserted depending on your installation. The rubber rings hold it in position without the need for tools or adhesive.
If mounting vertically, position the hinge pin of the butterfly blades horizontally so the blades fall closed under gravity when airflow stops.
Run the fan and confirm the blades open freely with unobstructed airflow.
Stop the fan and confirm the blades close automatically, sealing the duct against backdraft, debris, and pests.
