Biobest Nutrimite
Biobest Nutrimite supplies supplementary pollen food for certain predatory mites when prey is scarce. It supports an established population of Californicus, Montdorensis or Cucumeris so that beneficials have something to feed on between periods of pest activity. It is food for those predators, rather than a release of live mites or a plant fertiliser.
That alternative food source can help maintain a standing predator population in greenhouse crops. It suits capsicum and cucumber, along with other crops where predatory mites are being used against spider mites or thrips. Nutrimite is applied directly to foliage, either by hand dusting or with a dedicated pollen blower, putting the food where the mites are working.
Supplementary feeding is one part of managing a biological programme. Pollen can also encourage thrips, and in some situations releasing more predatory mites makes more sense than feeding the existing population. Crop monitoring still matters when deciding whether feeding is helping the balance of predators and pests.
The species distinction is important: Nutrimite is not suitable for Persimilis predatory mites. Keep unopened stock frozen, return an opened bottle to the freezer and use it within 3 months. Supplementary food is useful only when it suits the predatory mites being managed, so keep species identification and crop observations together when planning a feeding programme.
