Biobest Thripher improves monitoring for western flower thrips by bringing adults towards a blue sticky trap. Its sexual aggregation pheromone attracts both male and female adults of Frankliniella occidentalis, encouraging them out of the places where they shelter in the crop. It is specific to that pest, rather than a general lure for every thrips species.
Sticky cards can miss a developing population while adults remain hidden. Adding the lure helps expose that activity earlier, giving the grower more useful information for decisions about natural enemies or other crop protection measures. Biobest report that the combination attracts two to three times as many western flower thrips as a sticky trap alone.
The lure attaches to the sticky card, and its placement follows the crop canopy as the plants grow. The lure and card have different replacement triggers: the lure is renewed every 4 - 6 weeks, while the card is replaced once it is completely covered with thrips. Treating them as separate consumables keeps a filled trap from limiting the usefulness of an active lure.
The sealed pack contains the lures only. Pair them with a blue sticky trap and handle the lures with gloves to preserve their efficacy. Cold storage is also part of the product: keep the pack sealed and follow the temperature-specific storage periods before use. This is a tool for detection and monitoring, to be used alongside an appropriate response to the pest activity found.
