Bluelab External Alarm Box
The Bluelab External Alarm Box is an add-on for the Bluelab Pro Controller Wi-Fi that lets external switches decide when dosing is allowed to run. Connect a float switch on a reservoir or nutrient tank and the controller automatically enters lockout mode when that switch is triggered, stopping all dosing until it is reset. That gives an automated dosing system a safeguard tied to the tanks around it, guarding against overdosing if part of the system fails or nutrient levels run low, and it opens the way to alarms that let someone know about it.
The grower wires in the switches, so the box can work with whichever sensor suits the installation. Lockout can be triggered by either a normally open or a normally closed switch. A normally open switch keeps its contacts apart at rest and closes them when it is actuated. A normally closed switch does the reverse: it holds its circuit closed until it is actuated, then opens it. Float switches are commonly made both ways, and because the box accepts either type, the switch can be chosen for the job rather than for what the controller will accept. An external alarm, such as a horn or a flashing light, can also be connected so the alert reaches people who are not standing at the controller.
As well as protecting against tank-level problems, the box lets the Pro Controller work with an irrigation controller so dosing pauses during feed out. That stops additions being made while the solution is being pumped out to the plants. Because a lockout holds until it is reset, a tripped switch stops dosing and keeps it stopped, which leaves time to find the cause before the controller starts adding concentrate again. When planning the setup, decide which tanks need a float switch, whether an irrigation controller should pause dosing, and where a horn or light will be seen or heard. Then wire each one in to suit the system.
