Bugs for Bugs Fruit Fly Trap Pro monitors male Queensland fruit fly activity so growers can follow population trends alongside crop inspections. A cue-lure and insecticide wick attracts males into the trap, where catches can be counted. It is a monitoring tool: fruit fly traps do not control fruit fly on their own.
The trap comes in two colour arrangements, with either a clear base and yellow lid or a yellow base and clear lid. Four entry ports fit into the sides, and the wick holder connects beneath the lid. Position the assembled trap in a host crop or tree, sheltered from direct sun, in an area where fruit flies are likely to be active.
Regular records matter more than reading a single catch as a damage forecast. These traps catch males only, and the number caught is not a direct indication of potential fruit damage. Continue checking the crop for adult flies and signs of stinging, and look at how catches change over time. Nearby MAT cups compete for male fruit flies and can affect monitoring results.
The Bugs for Bugs Fruit Fly Toolkit sets monitoring within a wider programme that includes protein baiting, male annihilation and sanitation. Service the trap and replace its wick every 3 months rather than leaving it in place indefinitely. Gloves are needed during assembly to avoid contact with the impregnated wick.
