Bugs for Bugs Hypoaspis for Poultry
Bugs for Bugs Hypoaspis for Poultry is a living predatory-mite treatment for use around chicken housing where poultry mites, also called chicken mites, are active. The predators feed on small soft-bodied organisms and provide a biological tool alongside the everyday work of keeping a coop clean. They are released into the housing environment, with particular attention to the floor, crevices and nesting boxes where the material can be placed close to pest activity.
The mites arrive with a carrier mixture that helps distribute them through the treated area. All living stages are included, rather than just adult predators. Mixing the contents immediately before release spreads those stages through the carrier, which can then be applied directly to suitable surfaces in the pen. Warm, humid conditions and the bedding materials used in poultry housing can support establishment, but the coop still needs regular hygiene and sensible moisture management.
Early introduction is recommended. Where chicken mites have been a problem before, releases can begin proactively in spring; otherwise, start at the first signs of activity. Follow-up introductions are guided by continued pest checks, with monthly releases until there is no evidence of poultry mites. Release guidance varies with season and infestation severity, so the number of birds is only part of planning the treatment.
The biological treatment does not replace cleaning. Change bedding regularly, especially in nesting boxes, and reduce opportunities for rain to enter the coop. Those habits help address the environment in which the pest breeds while the predators establish. Chemical products need particular care, because some are highly toxic to Hypoaspis. Avoid combining an introduction with pesticide use in the coop, and give the living material prompt attention when it arrives. If release must be delayed, follow the storage conditions for these mites rather than applying a general refrigeration rule for all beneficial insects.
NOTE: These are living mites with a short shelf life, so we don't hold them in store. Your order ships fresh, direct from the breeder.
