The DIGI-LUMEN HPS Lamp - SE is a 600 W single-ended high pressure sodium lamp engineered for one job: carrying plants through flowering. DIGI-LUMEN blend its 2000 K spectrum for flower production and boost its far-red output, so the light it throws is warm and weighted toward the red end of the spectrum that sodium-lit bloom rooms have long relied on. It brings that flowering-focused output to a format HID growers already know, an E40 lamp driven by a separate ballast, which makes it a straightforward way to set up a new flowering space or replace a lamp in an existing one.
That warm, orange-red character is why high pressure sodium has stayed a flowering-room staple. The 2000 K colour temperature describes how warm the light appears, and DIGI-LUMEN's blend adds extra far-red, the long-wavelength band at the edge of visible red. DIGI-LUMEN say the boosted far-red increases fruit and flower size, and that the spectrum enhancement drives bigger, more abundant harvests. The lamp is rated two ways, and the two ratings measure different things: luminous flux, in lumens, describes brightness as the human eye sees it, while photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) counts the photons in the range plants use for photosynthesis, which makes PPF the more useful figure when comparing grow lamps. The lamp's quartz covering can be damaged by bare hands, so DIGI-LUMEN specify cotton gloves whenever it is handled.
On the electrical side, DIGI-LUMEN list the lamp as compatible with their DIGI-LUMEN 600 W Digital Ballast, which is built for 600 W metal halide and HPS single-ended lamps, and the lamp gives improved performance on high-frequency electronic ballasts. It is for horizontal use only, so plan for a horizontal mounting rather than a vertical one. For the first 100 hours, run it on 600 W of power only; DIGI-LUMEN advise this break-in to prolong lamp life. Clean dust or dirt from the lamp only once it is completely cold, and never spray liquid onto it while it is hot. When the lamp eventually needs replacing, dispose of it in a sealed container in accordance with local regulations.
NOTE: This lamp reaches extremely high temperatures. Disconnect the power supply before inspecting, installing or replacing it, wear safety goggles and gloves during installation, and never handle it while hot. Do not start the lamp while it is hot; after a brief power failure, wait 10 minutes before switching it on again.
